Chateauneuf du Pape 'Le Puy Rolland' 2016
At one of the highest points in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Château Font du Loup, natural spring water bubbles up from the earth attracting local wolves. This mineral-rich water filters down through the sloping sandy vineyards enhancing the area’s unique terroir. Font du Loup has been in the Melia family since 1942 and is now run by Anne Charlotte Melia-Bachas with her husband Laurent. "Puy Rolland" refers to a single parcel on north-facing slopes from vines planted in 1905. It is 100% Grenache and is one of the purest expressions of a site available in the region. Only 1000 cases were made for this 2016 vintage.
The 2016 displays enticing notes of kirsch, orange blossom, dried flowers, sea breeze and dusty soil on the nose. Medium to full body on the palate with beautiful concentration, ultra-fine tannin and a seamless, silky texture. Given a rating of 95 by Robert Parker and 93 by Jeb Dunnuck, Château Font du Loup is a wine we are very proud to have on our shelves.
With its robust nature and ballsy tannins, it pairs well with many of the same foods as a good Bordeaux. That means meat! Pork, lamb and beef all work well, and if you’re looking to complement a dish of game, wild boar or venison perhaps, you’ve found your wine.750ml
